Neighborly

When you move into a new place, you never know what kind of neighbors it comes with until you’ve lived there for awhile.  If only the ads had to describe the neighbors as well as the house.  3 Bedroom House for Sale. Neighbor on the left stops by to borrow tools all the time and never returns them until you ask at least four times.

But, like my father jokingly said: Everyone has that one annoying neighbor and if you don’t have one, then you’re it.

We have our annoying neighbor and we also have one fantastic neighbor! They are an older couple with two grown children and just as sweet as one could ask for, stopping by with avacados from their tree, a yummy treat to share or flowers from their yard.

Most people don’t take the time to do things like that and I know it’s always talked about how ‘way back when’ people use to be more neighborly within their community.

I think we are still neighborly, but within our electronic communities. We’ve built our own little communities with facebook, twitter, work and families, making the community or neighborhood where we live, eat and sleep in, take a back seat.  Plus, I know you’re thinking, who has time for face to face?

I stopped by my fantastic neighbor’s home the other day to return the gesture and she invited me in for tea.  Usually I’m one of those who decline such offers, feeling rushed to get on with my day, but I decided to take her offer.  Because, I DID actually have the time.  No one was going to die, including me, if I didn’t return a phone call immediately or finish all my errands for the day.  And it felt good to just sit, share a cup of tea and chat about what was going on in our lives at the moment.  And it only took about 20 minutes.  Who doesn’t have 20 minutes?
