Astrological logic

I don’t follow astrology. I don’t get readings from astrologers. I don’t even read my horoscope unless it’s something I happen to come across, then I’ll read it for fun.

However, I do believe that the alignment of the planets and stars have an affect on us. I do believe that if the full moon has a gravitational pull on the tides, then us humans, being made up of more than fifty percent water, must be affected by the gravitational pull too. We have to be. How could we not?

Well, today is my birthday and this year it’s not only the winter solstice, the shortest, darkest day of the year, but THIS year there was also a full moon and a lunar eclipse that hasn’t happened in like 400 years or so (depending on which website you visit).

AND I keep hearing from friends about how Mercury is in Retrograde right now. If you don’t know what that is, it has to do with Mercury appearing to be traveling backwards through the zodiac due to the orbital rotation of the earth in relation to other planets.  Or something like that. You can read about it here.

So my birthday today is full of chaos.  One thing after another.  And I can’t help but think  that all these astrological things going on MUST have something to do with it. If they don’t, then you explain all this chaos to me, because I can’t come up with a better answer.  Like the Washington Post said: “There are not many days like Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2010. Take it from people who know: astronomers. There was maybe one day like this Tuesday in the past 2,000 years.”

I couldn’t agree more.

Believe

This is one of the cutest things I’ve ever seen.  My nepehew was dressed up as a little chick for Halloween but apparently he really wanted to be something else!  We are whatever we believe we are.

Neighborly

When you move into a new place, you never know what kind of neighbors it comes with until you’ve lived there for awhile.  If only the ads had to describe the neighbors as well as the house.  3 Bedroom House for Sale. Neighbor on the left stops by to borrow tools all the time and never returns them until you ask at least four times.

But, like my father jokingly said: Everyone has that one annoying neighbor and if you don’t have one, then you’re it.

We have our annoying neighbor and we also have one fantastic neighbor! They are an older couple with two grown children and just as sweet as one could ask for, stopping by with avacados from their tree, a yummy treat to share or flowers from their yard.

Most people don’t take the time to do things like that and I know it’s always talked about how ‘way back when’ people use to be more neighborly within their community.

I think we are still neighborly, but within our electronic communities. We’ve built our own little communities with facebook, twitter, work and families, making the community or neighborhood where we live, eat and sleep in, take a back seat.  Plus, I know you’re thinking, who has time for face to face?

I stopped by my fantastic neighbor’s home the other day to return the gesture and she invited me in for tea.  Usually I’m one of those who decline such offers, feeling rushed to get on with my day, but I decided to take her offer.  Because, I DID actually have the time.  No one was going to die, including me, if I didn’t return a phone call immediately or finish all my errands for the day.  And it felt good to just sit, share a cup of tea and chat about what was going on in our lives at the moment.  And it only took about 20 minutes.  Who doesn’t have 20 minutes?

A dog’s life

You think a dog’s life is easy?  Well, you won’t think so after watching this video.  Just laying down in a doggie bed is complicated stuff! Everything has to be right.  Temperature, angle, timing… and who knows what else!

Day job

By day I am an EMT.  And by night, an Opera Singer.  Well, at least this was me yesterday.  Two auditions in one day that are polar opposites always makes for an interesting day.

The EMT audition wanted me with no make-up, hair pulled back and an EMT style wardrobe.  From there I had to transform into Maria Casello as best I could with dramatic eyes, pearls, hair up and an evening dress.  I know what you’re thinking, but you don’t LOOK like her and you’re not even Greek! Or maybe you are thinking, Who the heck is Maria Casello?

If you don’t know, according to the internet (it must be true!) she was an opera singer and had an affair with Aristotle Onassis while they were each married to other people.  After their divorces, I guess Maria thought Onassis would marry her, but he married Jackie instead.  Oh no he didn’t!

But the interesting thing for me here is that I used to get told I looked like Jackie Kennedy a lot when my hair was shorter, and I was still living in Minnesota.  So now I look like both Onassis’ ladies?  Hmm… I guess that means if he ever met me, he would have wooed me too.  Although, for me, he was a little too slick and his glasses a little to thick.

I had errands to run yesterday before and after my Maria Casello audition and while the rest of the world may have assumed this is just the way I dress while at the post office and grocery store, it felt like Halloween to me.
