I’m really not a Halloween girl. And Joe’s not into it either. I guess you could say we are to Halloween what Scrooge is to Christmas. No, ok, I wouldn’t go that far. Maybe I’m just lazy when it comes to the whole costume thing.
I did however dress up this year. I did it for Max. Not that he understood what was going on at all. It’s not like he knew why I was dressed like an angel or why people kept ringing the doorbell and why we kept giving them candy every time they did.
And umm, can you explain to me WHY we hand out candy on Halloween? It’s sort of like getting candy from a bunny on Easter. Not really what the holiday was intended to focus on. And if Halloween is supposed to be a celebration of the dead… umm, why again do we hand out candy?
Thank goodness Joe and I both feel the same way about Halloween. Can you imagine if one of us was TOTALLY INTO it and the other one wasn’t? Oh, just think of all the ridiculous arguements that could come from THAT!
But we did the Halloween thing. And I do have to admit, Max makes a pretty cute pumpkin. And you know how I love my pumpkins.
Now that there is a baby in the house, some days are filled with chaos. If the baby is crying it just makes anything else going on, seem even more dramatic. The baby crying, with the phone ringing, and the dog barking…
Recently my neighbor stopped by with some cake they had left over from a birthday celebration. Just as she knocked on the door, the dogs went crazy, I was on the phone and Max started crying. When I answered the door, my hair was probably a mess and baby-spit up all over my shirt. No, I didn’t invite her in. If I had, she probably would have run for the hills.
But then there are times when all seems right. When everything is calm. The tone is really up to the baby. If baby is happy. Everyone at home is happy.
I told you before how Max was strong from day 1. But now for the last couple months we’ve noticed we can really make out his delts and other muscles. Dude looks like he already hits the gym. He gets it from his Dad. I’ll have to find that pic of Joe as a little kid with already sculpted arms and show you what I’m talking about. So jealous.
A sure way for me to feel relaxed, is to hit the beach. Works every time. I’m not sure exactly why. The combination of sun, wind, sand and water is some sort of magical concoction for me.
We have a group of friends that often get together for some beach volleyball and last weekend we finally made it out for the first time this year. I thought it would be so fun to introduce Max to the beach. He could experience sand and feel the cool ocean on his little feet. And we’d capture it all with some great photos and video.
But, things took a turn after about 30 minutes of laying out the blankets. Max ended up in a crying fit for most of our visit due to an unexpected visit from the lovely gas fairy. I don’t know if it was the carrots he was introduced to that morning? Or the extra bottle of formula (in lieu of breastmilk) he had because we were out for the day? But something didn’t sit right and we spent most of our beach visit overcoming the gas episode. Our poor friends were probably like, Umm…who invited the crying baby?
Somehow I still walked away from there feeling relaxed. But poor Max may grow up not really liking the beach, and forever wonder why. So, we’ll definitely have to get back out there and make it a fun experience for him. Sans gas.
As you know, I love pumpkins. The more unique the better. So over the weekend, when we had some unexpected free time, we decided to road trip it up to a pumpkin patch about 45 minutes north of Los Angeles. And it was Max’s first pumpkin patch!
They were only open until 6pm and we arrived around 4:30pm. Perfect timing because by that time of day, half the place was in the shade. Plus there was probably half as many people. I don’t know about you, but I’m just not up for big crowds. I refuse to shop for groceries or anything on the weekends in Los Angeles. I’d rather go on a Monday at noon. Plus then I can grab my free coffe or food sample without waiting for some slow poke with a million questions to get out of my way! And that’s how I like my pumpkin patch too – free of crowds.
I can’t wait until Max is old enough to pick out his own pumpkin, run around the corn maze, hit the petting zoo and beg for a train ride. Until then, we at least snapped some photos of him having his first pumpkin patch adventure. We had him test out a few up close.
This was my favorite pumpkin – the stem was longer than the pumpkin!
This weekend we are also hoping to hit the same pumpkin patch we went to last year – but this time with some friends! It just depends on our work schedules on whether or not we’ll make it out. Yup, I sure do love pumpkins.
