Caught in the act

Several times now, Max will be doing something funny or cute and as soon as we grab the camera and he hears that little “beep” sound when we turn it on… he stops doing his funny thing!  Now we try to sneak up on him with the camera by turning it on in another room and then walking in quietly.

Here Max is doing his usual talky talk while sitting in his chair waiting for lunch.  A lot of the time he’s content just reading a book or talking away at himself or screaming at whoever he can see out the window walking down the street.  But as you’ll see, once he knows the camera is on him, it’s all over.  Therefore Operation Sneaky is in effect.

How this pregnancy is different from the first one #12

With Max I craved peanutbutter and banana sandwhiches every night at 2:00 am like I was going to give birth to Elvis.

This time, I’ve been craving ice cream and strawberries.  Which also made me guess I might be having a girl.  Vanilla ice cream and strawberries DO make the color pink!  And it turns out I was right.

I’ve eaten a lot more sugar with this pregnancy overall.  I still eat my vegetables and all that… but I eat more dessert.  Including ice cream with fruit and peanutbutter.  Every.  Night.

But isn’t that why they say “girls are made of sugar and spice and everything nice”?  At least that’s what I thought it meant.  Eat more sugar!

Mornings with Max 2

Mornings with Max used to be much more about eating and laying around than anything else. Now they are all about running around the house trying to keep up with him.

I never know which camera to have on hand. Video or still. And it rarely matters since whatever I wanted to capture him doing — he’s usually done doing it by the time I get the camera turned on and in focus.

But this morning, I caught a few shots I love of Max looking out the window. Yes, I think he stood still for a whole three seconds.

And… scene.

Last weeks drama has settled.  Mostly.

Pixie’s bandage was taken off and she’s finishing up her medicine today.

Max’s fever broke, his cough is less prominent and his diaper rash is almost gone.  Although, this being day 13 of waking with a diaper full of poo is NOT helping the rash!  I think it’s the sole reason it’s not completely gone yet.  Not that he ever had much of one, but we sure didn’t want it to get worse.  I looked online at some photos of diaper rash and OH MY!  It can get really out of hand.  If you’re interested in seeing some painful looking diaper rash – google it – I dare you.

He’s still getting air-out time for now and loving every minute of it.  And something good has come from all this.  He is much stronger, and even closer to walking.

I also think he’s happier with all the exploring and new adventures he gets to pursue during air-out time.  Perhaps he willed this diaper rash to happen so that he could build these skills faster.  I wouldn’t put it past him.  And I’m just waiting for him to take that first step WITHOUT holding on to something.

He likes to talk while he explores too.  Here he does his best screaming and growly voice for you:

We all have diaper rash

Max started to come down with a little something last Thursday.  The only way we knew was because he pooped four times that day instead of his usual one or two.

Then Friday, same thing.  Only by Friday he also had diaper rash.  Wow does that come on quickly!

Since then he’s been running around naked while we chase him cleaning up pee and poo.  Doctors orders.  That’s how you get rid of diaper rash best.  You air it out.

So we are all suffering a little due to diaper rash.  We can’t put max in his play area or bouncer or walker or anything really while he’s naked because the pee will get all over whatever he’s in.

I think Max is loving this time.  He now gets to do just what he always wants to do — crawl around the whole house and explore everything while we chase him cleaning up any messes along the way.

It’s very time consuming to be constantly following around his cute little baby butt.  But it’s good practice for when he’s walking because then too we’ll be constantly chasing and watching.

And that time is coming soon.  Very soon.
